The Type-C Rechargeable Live Optical Fiber Identifier with VFL can perform FTTH as well as FTTX jobs with maximum efficiency. The compact unit is 160 mm x 50 mm x 35 mm in size and weighs 200 grams. Live signals are detected on any live fiber without any cuts or damage using macro-bending detection technology. The InGaAs probe is used to precisely detect leaking light from the fibers.
By keeping the power button pressed for a long time, the device powers on. An LCD screen displays the battery level and the time until it will turn off automatically (default is 10 minutes). To toggle the auto-shutoff feature, simply push the power button again. All the controls are located on the front panel and are therefore easy to access.
Motorized Clamping System
The clamp is driven by a 6.0V DC motor. Pressing the Fiber Detection button causes it to lift, clamp, and test the fiber right away. This way, an even amount of pressure is applied during each operation and is as smooth when releasing. The results are shown immediately on the display. The direction of the fiber is shown as either Left or Right via a direction indicator, or XXX in the absence of any signal. The strength of the signal is displayed in dBm. You can also use this setup for bare fibers and pigtails. The “XXX” indicates no detectable signal.
Fiber Types and Signal Detection
There is a single adapter that will accommodate all fiber type requirements, namely: 0.25 mm (bare), 0.9 mm, 2.0 mm, and 3.0 mm tails. This device detects wavelengths between 850 nm and 1700 nm. The signal strength range is from -40 dBm to +10 dBm at 1550 nm or -30 dBm to +10 dBm at 1310 nm (CW method on 0.9 mm fibers). Recognizes CW, 270Hz, 1kHz, and 2kHz. Average insertion loss: 0.8 dB (1310 nm) and 2.5 dB (1550 nm). You can easily read all of the various data on the LCD display.
VFL and LED Functions
Activate the 650nm Red Light button to toggle between three positions: On, Flashing or Off. The corresponding screen icon shows the current position. This feature enables you to identify damage (bends or splits) to Fiber Optics.
The LED work light provides light to work areas that are not lit properly (i.e. Trenches or Panels). Use a short press to turn it on/off. The screen shows the icon that confirms the on/off status. The Fiber Optic Identification Tool and LED work light operate simultaneously during a detection.
Power and Charging
The Type C charging port is located on the side of the orange rubber band. The Type C input is 5V ≤ 1.8A; therefore, it can be used for Fast Charging. The lithium-ion battery is rated at 800mAh and has a low quiescent (standby) current of ≤3μA. The battery capacity allows you to perform over 2600 tests at full charge. After 10 minutes of inactivity, the Auto-Shutdown feature automatically shuts down the device to extend battery life. The battery icon on the main screen of the unit displays the current battery level.
Design and Durability
The main body is made of soft rubber material to provide a good grip, as well as protect the device against drops. The internal components are manufactured to be durable. The operating temperature for this device is from -10℃ to 60℃. For long-term storage, place it in an area between -25℃ to 70℃.
Clean all adapters regularly. Use a cotton swab and circular motion to clean the adapters after use. Store in a dry area and avoid hard impacts to the connector area.
