Designed for fast, accurate, and dependable optical fiber terminations, the ESC250D Fiber Optic Fast Connector is an environmentally friendly, field-installable optical connector suitable for FTTH and LAN networks. It is available in SC-APC and SC-UPC versions. This connector provides a simple and efficient way for installers to terminate fiber optics onsite without the need for a fusion splicer. The ESC250D eliminates hours of installation labor while providing reliable optical performance over time.
With the ESC250D’s mechanical design, it can be reused time and again. As such, the ESC250D is a perfect choice for residential distribution access points, distribution boxes, and on-site maintenance projects where cost savings and maximum stability are vital.
Construction & Design
The ESC250D is built with an exacting precision zirconia ceramic ferrule and a mechanical V-groove alignment structure to maintain the correct core alignment with minimal loss.
The ESC250D housing is manufactured from reinforced polymers for maximum strength, yet it is lightweight.
The internal clamping system provides a secure fit to hold the fibers in place without causing microbending, while the push-lock design simplifies the overall connection process.
Each of the fiber connectors contains an easy-to-understand color identification system: green for APC and blue for UPC to comply with standard industry marking practices.
Dust caps protect each connector from contamination, allowing the connectors to operate reliably for extended periods in a wide variety of environmental conditions.
Applications
The ESC250D is designed to be flexible and accommodate various types of installations. For example, it is frequently used:
- For FTTH (Fiber to the Home) installations of residential customers.
- As part of optical distribution frames; also used for optical termination outlet installations on walls.
- For connecting fibers to LAN or CCTV systems together with their associated equipment wiring.
- For performing onsite emergency repair or restoration of fiber installations.
- For maintaining optical cables and utilizing optical testing instruments.
Since the ESC250D supports a broad range of drop cable sizes, it is a practical alternative for an Internet service provider (ISP), network integrator, or construction engineer looking for efficient, flexible connection options.
Installation Process
The ESC250D was designed specifically to allow for quick and easy fiber termination in the field using traditional FTTH tools. The following assembly steps are required:
- Strip the protective jacket from the flat cable with a wire stripper.
- Strip off any coating from the fiber to expose the bare glass fiber underneath.
- Carefully clean your bare fibers with alcohol wipes.
- Cleave the end face of your fibers using a precision cutter.
- Place the cleaved fiber into the alignment groove of the connector.
- Secure the cleaved fiber in place with the built-in clamp and close the top cover.
- Attach the rear housing and protective cap to ensure they are secure.
This process has been streamlined so that it does not require adhesives or heat-curing; therefore, it is possible to terminate quickly in the field even if you do not have any specialized splicing equipment available.
Optical & Mechanical Performance
The design ensures superior optical and mechanical uniformity across all connectors.
- Insertion Loss: The total maximum insertion loss should be 0.3dB or below; this will give you a constant and smooth low-loss transmission to allow for dependable and stable data transmission.
- Return Loss: The minimum return loss for UPC connected and APC connected systems is 45dB and 50dB, respectively.
- Mechanical Strength: The connectors are rated at 30N of tensile strength. This rating means that you can expect your connections to remain solid when routinely connecting/disconnecting cables.
- Repeatability: You will experience multiple cycles of connecting and disconnecting cables with no noticeable degradation of the cable connector. Therefore, you can be confident that the connectors will hold up over time and meet the requirements for field tests and rework.
As a result of these features, the ESC250D can support high-speed continuous networking applications without requiring any maintenance.
