Cisco SFP-25G-LR-S compatible 25GBASE-LR SFP28 transceiver is designed to provide 25 Gbps data transmission over OS2 single-mode fiber (SMF) for distances up to 10 km at a wavelength of 1310 nm using a duplex LC/UPC connector. The transceiver’s digital diagnostics-monitoring (DDM/DOM) capabilities allow for real-time monitoring of the optical transceiver with hot-swappable functionality in the SFP28 form factor. The optical engine of this transceiver uses a distributed feedback (DFB) transmitter and a photodiode receiver to offer long-reach (LR) capability at 10 km. The DFB transmitter is specific to LR reach while maintaining stable wavelength and link budget using G.652 single-mode fiber. The transceiver also supports real-time configuration and targeted validation of specific end devices for reliable deployment.
The electrical/standards of the SFP28 transceiver follow IEEE 802.3by and IEEE 802.3cc; SFF-8431 and SFF-8472 management; and the SFP28 Multi-Source Agreement (MSA) mechanical and electrical system design standards.
The power and construction of the SFP28 transceiver operate typically under 1 W per port, with a maximum of 1.2 W per port. The transceiver is constructed with a metal enclosure to reduce electromagnetic interference (EMI), has FDA Class 1 laser safety, and is RoHS compliant and lead-free.
The compatibility of the SFP28 transceiver includes interoperability with 25G interfaces that comply with IEEE standards, and the transceiver has been tested with host switches and NICs. In addition, SFP-25G-LR-S compatible payload devices are compatible with 100+ vendors, including Cisco SFP-25G-LR, Juniper Networks JNP-SFP25G-LR, Arista SFP-25G-LR, Mellanox/NVIDIA MMA2L20-AR, Dell AA094688, Brocade 25G-SFP28-LR, Extreme Networks 25G-SFP28-LR, MikroTik XS+31LC10D, Intel E25GSFP28LR, a compatible Generic SFP-25G-LR, and Palo Alto Networks PAN-SFP28-25GBASE-LR.
The SFP28 transceiver supports many use cases: direct 25G Ethernet in cloud data centers, telecom, campus, and metro aggregation, which requires a single-mode link of up to 10 km without changing LC cabling; hot-swappable and upgradable for zero-downtime maintenance.
