Description

25GBASE-BX40-D SFP28 form factor module supports 25.78125 Gb/s transmission over single-mode fiber up to a distance of 40 km. It operates a 1310 nm transmitter (TX) and 1270 nm receiver (RX) on a simplex LC/UPC connector, and it must be paired with another 25GBASE-BX40-D (or compatible) module to operate correctly. The optical design includes a DFB laser transmitter at 1310 nm and an APD receiver at 1270 nm, optimized for use with ER-class links on G.652 single-mode fiber (SMF). It supports real-time diagnostics through digital optical monitoring (DOM) and digital diagnostic monitoring (DDM), which provide digital alarm thresholds, including monitoring for embedded alarms.

The 25GBASE-BX40-D SFP module is compliant with SFP28 multi-source agreement (MSA) and the 25G Ethernet standard, and it has CPRI/eCPRI options, but RS-FEC (common on host ports) is required for full reach of 40 km at the 25G line rate. The optical budget is typically 18 dB for 40 km BiDi links, with receive sensitivity targeted between −15 and −17.5 dBm and transmit power targeted between 0 and +6 dBm. The module is designed for single-fiber duplex operation using wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) filtering. The hot-swappable SFP28 module has a simplex LC/UPC common connector and low power consumption and is designed for both dense switch ports and long-haul access aggregation.
