The 10GBASE-ER/EW XFP 1310nm 40km is a long-range XFP transceiver that brings 10 Gigabit optical transmission over OS2 single-mode fiber with data rates ranging from 9.95 to 11.1 Gbps and supports 10G Ethernet, OC-192/STM-64, and 10G Fibre Channel. It has a 1310nm DFB/EML laser and a high-sensitivity PIN receiver achieving up to 40 km; the typical BER is 1×10⁻¹².
With DDM/DOM, the module can monitor temperature, supply voltage, bias current, and Tx/Rx optical power in real time. The all-metal housing helps to keep EMI low and provides superior ESD protection. The 10GBASE-ER XFP operates at a single 3.3 V supply voltage using an XFI electrical interface; the usual power consumption is less than 3 W.
The 10GBASE-ER is fully compliant with IEEE 802.3ae, INF-8077i, and RoHS lead-free. It is compatible with other equipment with XFP interfaces; however, vendor-specific EEPROM coding allows you to show LOS indication, TX_DISABLE control, alarms, and other functionalities configured by the host. The optical characteristics of the 10GBASE-ER/XFP include a link budget of approximately 14–16 dB, transmit power of −1 to +4 dBm, receive sensitivity of −15 to −16 dBm, and maximum receive power around −1 to 0 dBm. The extinction ratio should be ≥3 dB. The module supports SMF 9/125 µm with LC/UPC connectors and meets the maximum dispersion limits for 40 km links at 1310 nm.
