SFP-10G-BX80-U is a protocol-independent SFP+ BiDi transceiver for 10GBASE-BX80-U networks. The module uses a simplex LC connector and operates on OS2 SMF, with an operational distance of 80 km. This BiDi transceiver transmits on one wavelength, at 1490 nm, which serves as the transmit wavelength, and receives on another wavelength, at 1550 nm, with a complementary wavelength pairing for the opposite direction. DIAGNOSTICS: uses I2C (SFF-8472) to provide real-time parameters. TESTED: each transceiver is tested for compatibility with switches, routers, servers, NICs, and other network/LAN devices. POWER: consumes low power, optimized for long-distance links, suited for low-energy links. APPLICATIONS: enterprise, wiring closets, dark fiber service provider transport, Radio & Baseband Units, NICs, campus interconnects.
This BiDi module employs a cooled EML transmitter and APD receiver pair to operate. These BiDi pairs require a corresponding wavelength partner that travels in the opposite direction to complete the signal path. The BiDi transmitter effectively doubles the capacity of a fiber by WDM’ing the signal over a single fiber, with a cost-reducing installation based on cabling and infrastructure expenses. IDEAL USE CASES: MANs, data center interconnects over several buildings, inter-building links, backhaul, and offers long reach without installing new fiber.
